NOTES on INSTALLATION

Just a quick note on the installation process: The game needs to Install some .Net4 and some .Net1.1 components. It also needs to install some Directx9.0c components. You should make sure you allow the game to install these so DONT uncheck the boxes unless you are absolutely sure you have the components.

The .Net4 installation MAY give you an option to remove or Repair, if it does, choose repair. This usually happens when the installer finds at least some .Net4 components on the system already.

After installing (or repairing ) the .Net4 components, the Installer will prompt you to restart your computer DO NOT DO SO AT THIS TIME. If you restart your computer at this point you won't install the other required components. So choose Restart later.

When the DirectX installs, the screen appear not to be doing anything. DO NOT Cancel or Close the installer at this point. WAIT until you see the Installation Successful Window below.

Above are some of the things I observed the first time I did the install, and I thought it might help some others avoid some problems.

Thanks
rick

So, if I just got my new computer yesterday...that would mean I probably don't need those files installed...correct?

Nope, you still need them.

Why for something that supports Windows 7 does DirectX 9.x have to be installed when Windows 7 comes with DirectX 11 already included which is backwards compatible????

I can't answer that, but my understanding was that it was necessary.

Thanks
Rick

Definitely learned the hard way. Couple installs and uninstalls till I finally installed everything as posted to get a game that would not crash when starting....

Glad you were able to sort through it. And it sounds like "backward compatible" might not be 100% reliable.

thanks

Guys;

So I have a new win8 ultrabook that has directx 11. Won't this install replace my directx 11 with version 9? Or does it add a second version? I don't want other things to no longer work because I replaced a newer version with an older version.

Thanks - Joe

I don't believe it will replace your DX11 with an older version. I have DirectX 11, and I've re-installed several times and allowed the game to install DX9 with no ill effects, though I don't run Win 8. I believe the game installation of DX9 just adds some older versions of some of the necessary DX9 components without replacing the later versions. But I'm not a Windows guru by any means.

Thanks Rick..
Okay, I allowed the demo to update .net and directx. However, the game crashes immediately upon loading.
Sould this be playable on Win8? Also I'm using a Samsung NP900X4C ultrabook with an integrated graphics chipset the Intel HD 4000.

Here's the error.. any ideas would be appreciated
Thanks - Joe

.....

I'm not running Win 8 yet on anything, but one of the Team installed the game and found he had to install one of the components from Microsoft.

A link to the thread where he describes this is here:
fb.asp?m=3203849

You might want to read through the whole thread. While it is specifically for the game rather than the Demo, I would expect it to apply to the Demo as well. Hope that helps.

Hi Rick;

Thanks for the link. I uninstalled the game (Demo version), re-installed allowing the .net and directx9 to install again and it worked! Looks like the key was uninstalling and re-installing.

Thanks for all your help!

Just bort Panzer Command Ostfront and the game says it's version 327
Can I apply the 330 update directly or do I have to apply the 329 or 329f (?)
updates first ?

Lucks a chance but troubles sure

I purchased Ost Front quite a long time ago and so was surprised to see the recent update. It's been a couple of laptops ago since I've had the game on my system, but after seeing the update and all the work that has gone into refurbishing this game since my original purchase, I just re-downloaded it this week. My question is, is this latest patch comprehensive or do I need to go through a sequence of patches before I install the new one?

It is comprehensive. You won't need to install any earlier patches. Just the game installer and the patch. I hope you enjoy!

Thanks

Even when I do a fresh install of the update over a fresh install of the original, following all the instructions given in this thread, I still get the CTD upon clicking "Play"

Should I just install the update "Without" installing the original game??

Game runs fine without the update....

The update won't run without the base game installed.

Sorry you're having trouble with the update.

If you check the folder where PCO gets installed, there should be a log folder. In that folder tehr should be a log file with a date code as part of the name. If you open that log file you may be able to see what is causing the CTD. Or post the contenets here.

Thanks
Rick
