If you are a keyboard person here is how to save a battle quickly

Press esc

Press s

Type a name for the file

Press enter

This does the same as clicking the show menu button on the HUD, clicking the save game button, typing a name, clicking the save button, clicking resume.

Bump for Markshot. Close as we could get to your ctrl + s.

Thanks. That can be scripted to a single key stroke press with a foreground script and a background script which checkpoints saves based on their time stamp.
