I have a bunch of squadrons at Calcutta that could upgrade aircraft. There are aircraft in the pool, supply and air headquarters in the hex, yet I can't seem to upgrade. Any ideas?

I know, even with player defined updrades, some paths just do not open up.. no idea if you have the planes at a large base with supplies whythey would not upgrade

I do one of two things when this happens. First, wait a turn or two. Or, if you are impatient, like me, I send to either Calcutta or Delhi and that seems to work. I figure a counter in the code is stuck and by moving the squadron something is made right.

I'm in Calcutta now. I think the I moved the Indian Air HQ out of Delhi. Even though I have no aircraft at Delhi I wonder if that's the problem?

If you mouse over "no upgrade possible" it will tel you why.  It could be be because you only have 3 aircraft in inventory. (insufficient pool numbers)

I have been able to upgrade with less than the required amount in the pool in the past, although that may have changed in patch.

and then again, sometimes the game just does not allow an upgrade, are you playing with player defined updrades on, or off?
Its like those wonkey planes the PI army starts with, they do not upgrade to anything usefull, in this case, u have deined an upgrade path, try another plane..
I wish this animal always behaved in a alogical manor[:-]

In the above screen shot there are not enough Hurricanes in the pool. Sometimes even when there are enough and the button is grayed out I just wait and when the turn cycles through, the upgrade takes place.

Well, the squadron in your screen shot is actually based at Chittagong, not Calcutta. Check all the factors like supply, etc, for Chittagong.

I'd think it might be hq releated. I had a VMF unit at wotje IIRC w/ plenty of supply & a/c in the pool but it wouldn't upgrade but no hq in range but moved to Tarawa & it upgraded immediately due to hq there. I think it'd have to be some higher command hq not just any hq but can't remember offhand (ol timers disease) if that's right or not. I also think airfield size has something to do w/ it so Calcutta may work but not Chittagong

Minimum AF is 7 unless the Air Hq can lower it to meet Chittagong's AF.

Player defined upgrades are off. Version is 1.0.6.1108m3. Might be a genuine bug. Anywhere I should post this?

In the support forum. It accepts ZIP files.

You can upgrade an air unit that has fewer planes in the pool as long as it does not have a withdrawal date. Your unit doesn't have one so it should be able to upgrade with only three planes. It still needs to have the correct a/f size and supplies.
