How to button those tanks?

Okay, I got tanks coming down a road and two platoons in their path?
Now, I had set everyone to buildings to "ambush" (DEFEND|HOLD|CLOSE ASSAULT).
But what I think I really want to do is have my furthest squad open up (hopefully not be spotted), but cause those tanks to button up ... which I assume will improve the close assault odds of the nearest platoon & squads.
Well, how do I do that so that one squad opens up and the other two hold their fire?
Thanks.

Infantry over the range of close assault cannot target a tank. You can use the area fire command and hope that it buttons the tank. You may reveal yourself from all the shooting though.

No, have 3 squads further away than close assault. But I only want one squad (the most distant) to open up and the other two to remain hidden. I figure one squad spraying bullets should be enough to send the message "we have rifles and we can see you". No, need to endanger everyone to accomplish that.

To answer your question, you cannot defend hold and have a sub engage target or area fire. You can Engage>Hold and then have a sub target or area fire.

I must say that covering 60M to get behind these two unbuttoned tanks seemed a bit easy. I was sure that my two squads would be cut down before they got anywhere close. Let it not be said that there are certain advantages to commanding uber-mensch.

The T-34s were over confident behind their armor. And were distracted by a shinny object.
Actually, this was a much harder scenario when their weren't waypoints. Your squads had to go in basically straight paths or bend around houses to get behind the tanks.

Actually, I didn't use any waypoints. I just dismounted the buildings + rushed (while praying), and set the next 60 second order to defend. Die soldaten instinctively knew what to do when looking at the back of those T-34s ... a good thing for them too.

this is exactly the tactics I used for this scenario. You can issue an Engage --> Target and use Area fire to target as close to the tanks as possible. (you cant target tanks with rifles directly). Give the other two squads Engage --> Hold. they shouldn't try to target the tank becasue they cant hurt it.
thanks
