How can I change the race description? I don't see anything in the customization guide and... well I did a search on the forum and, is the search broken? I searched for race and got 0 hits????

The search is not broken, it's really quirky. You have to use at least two different words, check the simple search and select the forum you want for it to properly work.
As for the race description I think I saw a recent thread where this was done but I'm not sure, I'll keep an eye for it and let you know if I find how and if it can be done.

Race descriptions are part of the games galactopedia. To edit these go to Distant Worlds/Help and open using MS Word or another app that can edit .mht files. The race descriptions are in the files named race_0.mht - race_21.mht.

Unfortunately, you can't use these files in the customization folder. Only the vanilla races can be edited. If you try to view the race description in the game, for a race that is part of a customized mod, then you'll be taken straight to the galactopedia home page.

Hopefully one day, we'll be able to mod the galactopedia for customized races, techs, resources and everthing else.

One of the easiest ways to edit the descriptions in Galactopedia. Or at least for me, cause i never deleted the good ol´ IE.

1.Open the Galactopedia MHTML.file you wanna edit using IE.
2. Save the file. Select: Complete web page format (HTML + Images)
->Result: Now you have a file that can be opened with Word, FreeWord, Notepad or anything else that can edit HTML.files.
3. Change the Text [;)]
-> Unfortunatley the links for the pictures in this files seems to be broken after this, so you have to get them working again manually
4.   right click the in text picture, select "picture" and use the right file in DistantWorlds/images/*subfolder*
5. Open the file again with IE and save it again as MHTML.file
6. Copy and paste this file to the Galactopedia folder

--> Congratulations! You have a completly new Description with a few nice Pictures in it.

Took me 10 Minutes to figure this out. Never did this before, but it works just fine [:D]

I hopefully translated the terms right, cause I run my system in a different language.

This is a good way of doing it if you don't have MS Word. If you do have MS Word, just opening it and editing in that is easiest.

Yeah, ok. Word is the easiest way. But I have to admit that I do not use it (--> FreeWord). Maybe its because I had to deal to many times with Microsoft customer support. Takes ages to get a useful answer. The last time I spend about 4 hours in this crappy hotline, cause one of my own customers crashed his system without making a recovery dvd. Gosch, I truly hate Microsoft. [:D]

If you have MS Word, go for Igards way. If you dont have it, try mine [;)]

I have follow Tigan`s description and it works but when i want to restore the race Picture i cant make a right click and select the picture. I have open it with IE.

Can someone explain again how to restore the Race Picture please?

Hi, Umpa. I haven't tried Tigans method, but I think if you open the htm file with Wordpad, then you can right click and change the picture. If you've only got notepad, then you'll have to find the path for the image and change it to the location on the hard drive.

I have Wordpad but i dont know where i can change the Picuture.... do you know in which line i can change the Picture??

And i have another Question, it is possible to change the Empire Names that the AI create?
I will add Space Marines and when i begin a new Game the Empires of them should be named Blood Angels or Ultramarines.

Edit: Here i have a Screen how it shows at the moment (Hope it works..). I dont know why i have 2 Picutres.

I have Change DE_Race_file\image001 now to C:\Spiele\Distant Worlds\Customization\Warhammer 40k\RaceImages\Race_4a and now it works

Notepad is really good for this because all was in different names
