During a PBEM game I have received the following message:

The Sultanate has wiped his pbem logbook.

What´s the meaning of this?

Thanks

Well usually this message comes up if the player playing Sultanate has switched to a higher version of ATG or is playing from a different PC.

I play on two different pc's (home and . . . not home). When I open the save on a different PC, it accuses me of wiping my log book.

As the saves from a game against the AI are also kept in the same folder as the pbem saves, deleting a save file from any other game will also trigger the warning, at least that happened in AT, don't know about ATG since I haven't deleted any yet. This could lead to some paranoia [:D]

I'm just curious... How would that allow cheating anyway?

And what the hell is the logbook and what does it track?

Not that i am going to suggest methods of cheating, but off the top of my head: You play the turn on one computer, finding out alot of stuff, then play it again on another computer (which does not have the info about the turn you just played) and take advantage of that knowledge.

Hmm true... I'm not very creative when it comes to cheating... ;)

I think the system tends to give a potential cheat warning a bit too often. I remember that once everybody in a WaW game got a message that I fiddled around with some files and was a really nasty cheater when all I did was changing the timezone of my laptop after a transatlantic flight. Also since AT(G) turns sometime take a couple of hours to play and as it is not possible to save your turn halfway through I sometimes need to reopen a turn (adding in-turn save would be a nice feature).
I have not seen any ATG game yet where I think somebody is cheating. It is supposed to be a game after all.

I completely agree Lunaticus, we need to be able to save in the middle of the turn and keep on going from that point later on.
Edit: I'm going to add this to the wish list [:)]

Why, if you feel so strongly about it, don´t you just play with the PBEM cheat turned off?

Exactly! Turn passwords on and leave PBEM off. YOu still need a password to log into your turn but all the anti-cheting stuff is turned off.
Turst your opponents and you can save as many times as you like in a turn.

Without wanting to start a discussion: I am usually fine with not activating PBM protection. But then sometimes you find yourself in a game where this has been activated either as default or by intent which is fine for me to. And I think that for these games it would be nice to have a solution too.
This does not mean I think there usually should be PBM protection activated. As I said in the ATG community cheating from my perspective does not seem to be a major topic (in contrast to some RTS I have played) but I think it is good to have options...
