Matrix games, at least this one and War In The East is that it's based on real life tactics and strategies. Your commanding officer didn't tell you that you have to take that hill in 30 minutes or the game is over...[:)]

You have to move towards your objective and once you encounter resistance, stop and assess the situation. Look for ambush points, lines of possible defense, etc.. The same places that you would put mines are probably also the same place that are mined, obviously..avoid them. As MR said in another post you need to go slow, there is very rarely any need to hurry. If you have Intel that enemy reinforcements are on the way and should arrive in xx number of turns, plan to set up a defensive position a turn or two before they get their if you can't take the objective.

While some points of this game could use some improvement, and they are working on them, this is an overall excellent game and really rewards those who plan ahead. But also this is war and things don't always go as planned...[:D]

"Go Slow" is the number one tip on how to play this game.

Well according to the movie Patton, in Sicily he told a captain that if he did not take the objective in an hour, he would be a Lieutenant...[:D]

Let me say that I love not having a time limit, but, in real life, most attacks are on a timetable. You usually have other units waiting too advance as soon as you complete your objective. You might have too clear a crossroad or hill for the offensive to move on. If you take all day too clear that hill you are delaying the attack timetable and jeoperdizing the whole operation.

In PCO you don't have enough units or ammo to go all day. Most battles end up being 30-60 minutes of real time.

I agree..I think there probably should be a balance of no time limit and some type of attack timetable.

That being said, I started the 1st infantry division campaign as a learning experience w/ commands, etc. The first battle lasted 61 turns as I methoodically attacked. I thought that I was winning the battle, i.e., keeping my casualties down and the soviets up. But the battle ended w/ me taking a marginal loss (the flag objective was contested at the end). I didn't notice the scoring meters rising too far for either side; and was actually surprised that I lost.

Exactly. And if the time you think they should have taken the objective comes and goes you can end the scenario with a bonus.

You can force a time frame if you want to. Just not in the way you're used to with other games.

Good Hunting.

You mean creating, as a scenario creator, a point bonus going to the enemy that kicks in after a certain amount of turns/time passes?
