On turn-1 all available units may use sea movement to the Sicilian coastal hexes they intend to invade. All American units using amphibious assault must be accompanied by a unit of the 531 Engineer Shore Battalion. The Commonwealth units must be accompanied by a Beach group unit. Each of these battalions can support the hex they are in and any adjacent hexes. These units may be broken down into companies but the company can only support one hex for an invasion group. The exceptions to this are Marine units and Special Forces units.

My two cents on these units,
(and my cents is based on playing Bitter Victory on 3.2.29, so the new supply rules may change things)

I broke up the units into thirds and set each sub-unit off-shore from an invasion hex, even if the shore hexes looked empty. Stacked the invading units on-top. Invaded the following turn. I kept the units in place as off-shore until I had established supply points on the beach and the invading units had trace to the on-shore supply points. As the turns clicked by, I re-assembled the units and shifted to off-shore from port hexes -- sort of an extra barrier for the attempts to land Axis units into these ports. (Note -- this came from Elmer; again, v 3.4 may have improved 'his' mistaking who occupies which port.)

By turn 15 or so, I'd use one or two of these units to support the end-around landings out by the Palermo end. By turn 25, I'd run out of use for these units -- I guess that's historical.

Anyway, HTH.

thanks guys, appreciate the help, breaking the units up and using them as Ogar did, is really a good idea, except I usually land them first then the infantry, etc.

Thanks again for all your help
