The 55th and 56th "Division" Brigades

For some reason, the 55th and 56th divisions are represented as Divisions. Probably
because they WERE divisions. But they both peeled off a RCT for independent operations,
and for that reason are binary formations rather than triangular. Just giving them the
right number of squads is not the same as having them break down as they would.
So I redesignate them as brigades, with "division" in parens in the name.
Thus you get 55th "Division" Brigade when you see it - and know it sub divides into two RCT
rather than three.

Cid, you may want to actually try and play AE before you start modding. You will find many, many things have changed.
Namely Divisions can now
start "broken" down into their component units and those units can be recombined to form the parent. In some instances those component units also start broken down into component units. HOWEVER once the parent division is formed you may only "breakdown" into the /A, /B and /C RCT's.
You will also find that unlike WitP Brigades can no longer be "broken" down during the game like they were able to in WitP.

55th and 56th Infantry Divisions were latterly traingularized from a square organization. Each had one of their four Infantry Regiments, along with the Infantry Brigade Group headquarters, detached to independent service. The remaining three Infantry Regiments, less the infantry group headquarters, remained with the divisions. Just like any other normal Japanese Infantry division.

Was there a
normal Japanese infantry division?

I can see that Divisions can break into three parts - it is in the manual with an example -
but I missed that brigades may not break down. In that case, these divisions might be
modeled by creating the two sub formations to begin with?
I will presently begin a near stock test game set - probably one on each side -
to evaluate the product. I am only addressing certain matters - and noticed this one.
While one COULD divide a division into 3 parts with only two regiments, one of those
parts would have only a battalion staff.

Not in the game.

You misunderstood my meaning. The problem is - it IS in the game.
That is, code says you an divide the division into three parts - but in fact there are not three regimental staffs in a
two regiment division - so my point was - the third section would in fact have a battalion staff in command. Not ideal
simulation, and there is no penalty for that as IRL>
Turns out the game does NOT have two regiment divisions at all - it has the divisions present in their regimental form -
and you can recombine them if you want. Never mind the 144th is way off somewhere else - and significantly reinforced -
but it is a solution of sorts. The regiments are all present - and in the right places - and they can recombine back -
just not into a two regiment division as these two divisions really fought. It appears that we no longer have the ability to
divide brigades - hmmm - so the airborne and airmoble force must be broken down - or they cannot break down.

He understands you fine. He is telling you that in-game a division breaks down into 3 equal pieces: /A, /B, /C. Only in the scenario editor can you have a unit start out broken down into various other components. But in-game once you have a division - whether it rebuilt from components defined in the editor or whether it started the scenario as whole division - it can only divide into 3 equal pieces: /A, /B, and /C.
