Trouble with alternate graphics

I've been working on a set of alternate graphics for ATG (I started it on AT before the new release, and well I just couldn't quit since I put in effort and I was learning a lot about gimp), and have run into a problem replacing graphics for all urban terrain types. I started replacing the "normal" terrain types, and that seemed to work fine. But, whenever I try to replace any of the urban terrains, I generally get a popup window stating that "Unhandled exception error has occurred in your application ... Exception of type 'SystemOutOfMemory Exception was thrown'" and the only recourse is to quit. This seems to happen to all the urban type, Capitol, urban, suburban. Typically, the exception would be thrown after changing and then scrolling around to look at the change. At first, I could get away with changing one at a time, quickly save before the crash, then go to the next and try the next to beat the exception error. I was able to replace normal, mud, and desert capitol this way (one or two sprites at a time before it would crash). Having done these, it now seems to throw the exception before I can save, actually during the save. After the graphics are replaced and I restart ATG, it seems to work ok, in that scrolling around in the editor doesn't cause a crash. If I don't restart ATG, generally it seems to eventually throw the exception when you go back to the editor even if you have saved the file.

Basically, I replaced both png files for the sprite and did not change any other settings. I didn't add anything to the third sprite area. I have not checked to see if other "write on top" graphics have the same problem because I haven't gotten that far in the graphics yet.

Also, it does seem to load slower with my alternative graphics. Could this be due to still loading some graphics from the AT2 graphic directories?

Currently, I am using ATG 2.05 beta (it happens in all versions) with Windows 7.

Hi there Ormand,

When in game or in editor you can press the "DEL" key to get log writes written that list all graphics currently loaded in memory.

What is your ammount of RAM memory? (and is it not all eaten up by some other application you have running?)

Lets get this solved... just hang in here with me for a while and we get to the bottom of this. If you have enough RAM (1.5GB or more) send me one of the graphic files thats causing the error please to vic@xs4all.nl

Best regards,
Vic

Hi Vic,
So, quitting Gimp helped a lot since this frees some memory (4 GB just ain't what it used to be). Basically, I can change about half of all the various Capitol (or urban or suburban) terrains in one shot. Somewhere after finishing plains, and into mud (with snow to go), I get the out of memory error. But, that more or less works.
