Could anyone make a recommendation for a program or tutorial to edit the icons used on the counters and in the combat screen? I have corel draw 15, but I have not the slightest clue how to get it to edit those images. Everytime I try I seem to be unable to change it.

Yep, but I'm talking about taking the fighter image and modifying it by adding an 'E' in the corner for my escort fighter's image.

I just use paint, works fine. Use pink as transparent colour,

How do I save it as transparent? If I just open an image and save it, it loses its transparency.

I would advice using the excellent free paint program called Paint.NET
it has great support for transparency (among others) and most importantly it is easy to use.

best,

I agree with Vic. Paint.net is a great free graphics program. I used it to make/modify my NATO counters.
