Multiple Upgrade Question

I'm working on the finishing touches to the new release of Reluctant Admiral and have a concern/question. How does one allow multiple upgrade possibilities for a ship?

Specific Example: USS Tangier

Am planning on allowing the American player the opportunity to convert her to a CVE in 12/41. How do I allow the player this option while, at the same time, allowing for the chance they don't convert and instead leave the ship's classes to go their normal path?

The way I've done it is to give the ship a regular upgrade path like a normal ship, but then set a convert from/to bind with a conversion option that has a date slightly before or available at the same time as the upgrade. Once the player makes the choice to upgrade or convert, then the choice is locked in and can not be changed back.

If they don't choose to convert, the ship simply stays on its upgrade path. If they choose to convert, it starts down a new upgrade path.

Since pictures show it better, I will post a series of 3 that will show what I mean:

This is the Ise as it starts the game. I have chosen to mod it so that if you do not convert, it remains a battleship through-out the war. Here is the 12-7-41 snapshot:

Now, you can see that it is a convert from class to bind 105. Looking at bind 105, 1716 and 1718 are bound together, so 1716 can convert to 1718. You will also note that in the upgrade slot, the number 1717 defines an upgrade should you choose not to convert.

In the next shot, you see the 1717 slot, which upgrades to 1735 (that is my continuation of the BB configuration).

Now finally, here is shot 3 showing the slot 1718 hybrid BB-CV (AKA hunk of junk) that you can convert to. You will also notice that it starts its own upgrade path going from 1718 to 1719. If you chose to convert, there is no going back, and if you chose not to convert, there is also no going back.

And that is exactly how it can be done.

John,

I would look closely at the Wickes class DD that are in play for the USN at the start of the game. It is the one class that coes to mind right awya when you bring up a class with multiple upgrade/conversion paths

You can link more than one upgrades to a conversion and vice versa. Lots of possibilities.

Michael and I are having all sorts of issues getting these conversion options to work. Went through how Shark described above and it still doesn't work. Think I am simply being stupid.

Would anyone be willing to take the files and FIX this? We're ready to launch RA 3.0 as soon as this is done.

THANKS!

Figured it out. Fairly simple once one has done it successfully...

John 3rd,

Have I made an error somewhere in my method? As far as I can tell, mine are working properly.
