hi all,

marc and me started a game with me as axis.

after reading all the fantastic stuff here from pelton, q-ball, tarhunnas and all the other folks with marshals here i decided to begin a AAR too.

in the first turn i tried something different then the mainstream. i dont go for riga with armor. i made several attempts but my panzerdivision got stopped at the gates of the city every time although it got pioneers as SU. in the south it was impossible for me to build a lvov pocket. i tried it over 1 hour but ended up 4-5 hexes away from rumanian front with no flank protection. so i did what all newbies should do at the first time..i created a "baby lvov pocket".[;)]

the loses after turn 1.

the air attacks were ok.

Playing Axis is a difficult task. It takes a lot of practice to get the first turn moves down to the point you can muster the maximum effect.

One must start somewhere and you have done so.... good luck!

Misc tips -

1) Your Panzer and mot divisions should have the maximum number of support units attached. I put Pioneers with the Panzers and flak/assault guns and flam Panzers with the SS and Motorized.

2) Set your fighter intercept around 150% and keep your bases tight together. Move them last.

3) If your fighting easy battles with high odds turn off your ground support and save your bombers for flying fuel to your Panzer divisions. Fly fuel every turn!

4) Watch out for Soviet leakers in your rear they can really slow down your rail conversions.

5) Before you overrun a Soviet airbase with Planes on it bomb it a few times. You will increase the number of planes you destroy as the damaged ones will not escape.

You may know these things but even if you learned one thing I am glad to have helped.

Ketza posted a lot of good info.

One other thing I noticed is you left a lot of Russian units at the borders not pinned. They can freely move in German territory and if I was the Russians, I would be doing just that to wreck as many of the rail lines as I could and just be a general pain as much as possible.

As far as some of the opening moves go, it is very difficult to pull the "dash to the Rumanian border" with just your AGS panzers. Most players draw help from panzer group 2 by varying amounts to help out.

There are some good AARs to look at for openings and also a couple of threads in the war room that are sticked to help out.

The German first turn is something that can be practiced a lot since it is the start of the game and practice does make a huge difference in how things go. The opening turn is absolutely huge for the Germans because they will never get another turn like it in the entire game, so they must learn to make the most of it.

hi and thanks for the info.

my problem was that i wanted PG 2 mpore in center and north (leningrad is my primery target) and not 2 PGs in the south. from the center the PG has many opportunities to north ahead and right. in the south its movement is somewhat limited.

which units do you mean with "not pinned"? some units in the north pocket or the russians facing AGS?

Russian units you left along the border. They may be isolated, but because they don't have to move from one zone of control to another, they have pretty good freedom of movement.

you guys were correct. i ignored this tiny soviet counters at the border and now have to make some rail repair in the rear area of the front.:(

the stanislav area. finaly i reach the romanian border and get some russians in a mini pocket.
