Game Graphics

My favorite graphics editing program is Jasc's Paint Shop. I also use the Paint program that comes with Windows sometimes. The png graphics in the game is made with Gimp.
So, when I try and edit the png graphics with anything other than Gimp I get partial hexes when I open a scenario. Does Gimp gimp the graphics and force you to use that program only, which I personally dislike intensely? I'm probably doing something wrong when I use a different program but I can't figure out what.

I did the unthinkable. I read the Paint Shop manual. I am sorely ashamed. But I did find out what to do to make editing the png graphics in TOAWIII possible.
Thanks for the offer of help Telumar. Problem solved.
However, there is a secondary query. When I edit the XML file that says what a particlar tile is, forest, road, river, etc. Where do I put that edited file? In the same folder I put the other stuff for a scenario?

No. Into the same folder as the scenario itself.
Naming Convention is
SCENARIONAMEGameText.xml. No space between scenario name and gametext. I.e.
Autumn Fog 1944GameText.xml

Another good freeware Paint clone is PhotoShape. I personally found GIMP too 'technical' aka more like for graphics designer etc. PS fits the bill for me, becasue it solved my speechbubble and other issues nicely *see below*
