Radar

The manual indicates that radar has some impact on Cap and Surface Combat effectiveness.

Does anyone have a feel for whether UV takes into account the difference between CSP-1 vs CXAM or SC vs SG in determining effectiveness?

Definitely yes...

The differences in the radar systems are most certainly modeled. Put together an SG-equipped TF and send it into a night combat and you'll find it fares _much_ better on average than a no radar or SC-equipped TF. If you do a search, you may find an earlier post where I listed some of the radar stats.

- Erik

Thanks

Thanks for the reply Erik. I also managed to find your earlier post on the subject. I had searched the forum on the subject before asking my question but apparently my “radar” wasn’t operational that day.

Erik,

In your post you referred to the thread: Radar Sets

That was a great help. My question has to do with upgrading RADAR. I see that USN ships with older suface RADAR often get upgraded when sent back to Pearl Harbor.

Aren't CV's supposed to upgrade from the CXAM Air Search to the CPS-1 set?

I'm in June of 43 and some CV's have gone back to PH twice, only to come back with the CXAM, not CPS-1 as the Essex and Independence classes arrive with.

Shouldn't they upgrade?
