hearing tanks move

Hi,

would it be possible to implement a feature that you can hear a (heavy) tank coming if it's on the move? Possibly only when you have a friendly unit that is close enough to hear it.

In real life you could hear the big armor coming from far away, while in CC they are pretty stealthy, too stealthy I think. I think it would be nice and somewhat terrifying to hear a big tank coming, but not being able to see it yet.

Thanks for looking into it.

"Hearing" enemy vehicles is abstracted in-game by being able to temporarily see a vehicle that your units dont have an LOS to.

Thanks for the info, although I'm kinda surprised CC makes this compromise. I think it would be cooler and more realistic if player could hear the tanks, instead of (unrealistically) having LOS to a unit they can't even see...

You dont get 'LOS' to the enemy vehicle in the sense of being able to trace a green fire line. The moving vehicle sprite is momentarily displayed to represent your unit(s) having some idea of its location based on their sound perception. The Atomic developers vetoed using tank sounds because they'd be overly repetitive then become constantly annoying.

The only thing I hear from enemy tanks is "BAILING OUT" [8D]

I don't see the problem with the repetitiveness; it's more real/realistic, that's one of the key features of CC.
You could use it only when tanks move, not while stationary, and maybe only for the bigger tanks, and only if units are within hearing range. Use various sound samples. Make it optional, have a 'vehicle sound' volume slider, whatever :).
