How about a Accurate 8/1/42 Scenario!

I started the Hard Road scenario too many times for it to be fun anymore. The Japanese carriers are arriving too early. The Battle for the Eastern Solomons occured on 8/24-8/25. Scenario 7, Hard Road has them arriving in Truk on 8/11 and high balling down to the "Canal" arriving there on the 15th or 16th. There is no reason why they do this. They aren't escorting troopships either, which is what happened historically, so can this be fixed or is the AI too dumb? After the carrier battle nothing happens, a few Tokyo Expresses, but no attempt by the AI to recapture the "Canal".

If I play the June 1 1942 scenario by the time August comes around the AI has two regements of infantry at Lunga plus a SNLF, the airfield is size 3 and the coastal defense gun maul the USN invasion force when it attempts to land! Ergo you throw the historical battle out the window! I know there are work arounds, so please don't tell me about them.

I've tried to modify scenario 7 with the editor but it screws up all the entery times. For example the 1st Marine Division now enters play 75 days after 8/1! So much for the editor!

The game is becoming a fanatsy World War II game. The mechanics are GREAT, but the historical execution is in the Twilight Zone!

I used the Editor to modify Scenario #7 to the Historical Events per Rich Dionne`s post: www.matrixgames.com/forums/showthread.p ... did=21356, at least I hope that`s correct, or a search on his name will bring it up.

It works fine following his instructions, the 5th. Regt/1st. Marine Div. shows up in mid- late July as always. Perhaps you tried to change their entry date and it got screwed up ? I just left as is.

I have seen them really piling units into Lunga eary on ( June ), other times there is nothing there by mid July , the AI is highly vairable in how it deals with Lunga it seems.

Hmmmm, don't know what's wrong now! When I load scenario 7 in the editor the entire 1st Marines is set to a delay of 75! It should be waiting in Lungaville wjhen I fire it up! When I load my modified scenario and look at the reinforcements the 1st Marines are 75 days off or October 15th!?! I know the 5th Marines show up late, but what's going on with the rest? Is scenario 7 hard wired with some sort of weird reinforcement algorythm? Even using Rich D.s system they woud still arrive on the 15th of August!

A stable historically accurate campaign for the Solomons is all I am asking for, starting on 8/1/42.

According to Rich, the best scenario for modification is the #17. It seems that most of the other scenarios are more or less hard-coded :(

I've seen it posted several times that #17 is the only scenario that should be used for editing. Apparently the others are all "hard wired" and will not behave.

Just like Spooky said:)

I've read that too, but for it to be that twitchy makes me nervous! To modify scenario 17 to 8/1/42 is a herculean task! I paid good money for a historical simulation, it would be nice to have two stable historical scenarios; May 1, 1942 The Coral Sea and 8/1/42 Opearion Watchtower or as it was called Operation Shoestring! The other fantasy scenarios are cool, but I already own Baldurs Gate!
