Chess has established rules (seldom updates), and requires planning. Well, WitE offers much more in terms of rules (however updates), and requires planning. I am a chess player and this is the reason why I enjoy WitE.

unlike chess, there is a certain amount of randomness which is why i like the game, i too play chess......and suck.

Same here. Well it was 20-ish years ago I stopped, after embarrassingly having been too hung over to be able to appear at an important game. [:o]
Anyway, having played WitE since it came out, I can safely say I'm better at that than I ever was at chess.[:D]

I used to in high school then stopped for many years. Have played a bit against the computer while travelling over the past few.

I've had occasional spells when I've been quite keen on chess, I can't dedicate myself enough to become very good though, also my memory is poor which is a handicap at the higher levels of the game.I'm probably about 1500 ELO (ish).
I do think that chess has tremendous relevance in some ways to the tactical aspects of warfare.Control of the center, gaining of tempo, concentration of force etc.

thats to funny I was thinking the same thing...I think I still have my box of that game somewhere.
