Hi, I am playing the Long, Long Road To Victory campaign and I am in the first mission. I have taken the west side of the French base and I am doing fairly well. But last turn a JU-87 stuka dive bomber showed up and killed almost my entire army. (In 2 turns, 28 of my infantry squads, and a couple of tanks have been destroyed!!! Only from ONE stuka!!) Now most of my men were near the road, which I understand is wide open, but I must cross the road to continue on with the mission.

My force is made up of M10 Wolverines, M4A3 Shermans, Riflemen, Rangers, and a few bazooka teams, (All of my Infantry are on foot) what should I do???

Thanks in advance for helping a newb. :)

I personaly leave all of my foot soldiers on my tanks until i hit contact.I also design a core force that can move fast.Speed kills.I think the cpu just got lucky on you.try again.hope this helps.

read this thread, lotsa good info:
showthread.php?s=&threadid=20526&highlight=bait

In this scenario, if you move fast, you can place truck bait on/along the east-west road along with your AA units (in good defensive positions)

On that mission if you move fast, with Rangers and HTs, and kill the HQ you can rout the French army before the Stukas or reinforcments arrive. The HQ is in the town at the top.

Yeah, thanks I just found him before I read your post. I went to encircle the souma tanks in the north, and shortly after they were elimitated I found the HQ.

But i didnt know killing the HQ has an affect on the rest of the army. Routed is when they can not move correct???

I believe Hades was inferring 'massively defeating' the army or routing it.

A routed unit refers to a scale from 0 to 99 indicating the supression level of that unit. I am not sure of the exact point value, but it seems that units in the range of 8+ suppression points have severely reduced or no movement points. These are not necessarily routed. A routed unit will generally:

1) not op fire when an enemy unit moves into adjacent or same hex
2) not op fire when fired upon
3) have substantially increased target hit percentages, often above 75%
4) be dead meat in general

You can also cause supression on the whole remaining army by eliminating the enemy headquarters after inflicting a substantial percentage of casualties on the army. Even units which have not yet been engaged will be affected when this happens. You will see a message post every turn after this has happened.

If you control all the v-hexs and the enemys moral is broken to automaticly win. I always try to go for this in campaigns.
