Newbie Questions.

These questions mainly pertain to Solitaire mode and playing random type battles on SPWAW 7.11.
1) When I choose daytime it appears that the selection is routinely ignored.
2) The random map is always the same three hills just adjusted for the terrain, i.e. deseert, snow etc.
3)The point allocations appear wacky, for example the defender gets triple the points of the attacker, is there a standard ratio?
4) Strike aircraft appear to drop way more bombs that they actually carried
5) Is there a way to change the victory locations on the custom maps?
Thanks in advance for the help.

1. You can also adjust visibilty, don't always assume that just because the map appears darkenened it's night, it can be the fog of war especially if visibilty is low.
2. Change different map styles to include water options and mision types and be sure the random map option is select.
3. In the preference screen you can set the number of points allowed in battle, if you chose the random XXXX selection then player 2 will only have the number of points spect by player 1 IE: The game generates a 15000 limit but player 1 only spends 11200, then player 2 can only spend 11200.
4. The amount of explosions is not linked to number of bomb carried this anamation presentation showing bomb droppings.
5. Yes but I personally don't know how, I don't dabble in map creation or altering.

With the built-in editor you can change everything on the map.
You can change position and type of victory location (points per turn; point at the end of the battle; hidden objectives; timed objectives...;

I appreciate the help, but I don't know what's up because the infamous three hills are coming up again. I have tried the edit option to move the flags but then you have to buy the units because it seems like you can only move the victory flags in the deployment screen. Then there is no element of surprise as to enemy force allocation. Very frustrating, because this game has awesome potential.

Use the editor to make a custom map (adjust the terrain and the obj. flag ), save this map and then start a new battle and select the option "custom map".
Now you can begin the battle with a map of your taste.

(Attention: when build your custom map select the P1 and P2 nations in the same order you'll begin the battle; in this way you are sure the reinforce and retreat side are ok)

I think you are playing with the Preference limited ammo set to OFF. Set it to Limited ammo ON or Reduced Ammo ON and the planes will drop only the ordnance they are supplied with.

If you load a map from the selection of maps that come with the game, you can edit the locatins of the victory flags and also the locations of the start lines. Save the map in a new location and then go back to the Battle generator.
Select Custom Map before starting the battle.
You can select it "as designed" or with random startline and VH's.

When you begin the battle you will be prompted to choose your map. Then proceed with buying your force.

Absolutely right on the limited ammo move, I am playing with limited ammo from now on. I play this game every night like an addict.

Major D: The doctor is out, but take two APCs and call back in the morning. If APC's are not available any old six pack of beer (iced) and a bag of salted nuts will work till morning. As a last resort you might try SP2 for a slo fix to hold you over.:D :D

I got a fix

about the three hills issue...are you guys saying that you need to make your own maps so and select that one?
Me and me friend often end up loading the battle stuff as often as 30 times before a map that looks good comes up(i.e, woods, 1 hill, a river, a few houses ect).

For a generated battle, you can load any of the 'custom' maps that come with the game.
Alternatively, you can create and save your own map, or you can save a map from a scenario and use that.

The selection is infinite.

see thats just it. we cant create maps cos we end up arguing which side has more advantages ect.
hmmm. i think spwaw would own if the battle generator wouldnt always have those 3 f00kin hills in the middle. Hate those battles. especcially when playign with the russians. large open tunda, they cant hit air.

One way to equalise games is to play 2 mirrored battles at the same time using the same preferences and the same map.
Any unfairness then applies to both players equally.

My recently completed Paris Cityfight (A What If Scenario) Is totally unbalanced :\

I thought that the Germans would cakewalk through Paris and retake the Kriegsmarine...turns out two full companies of Legionairres is alot tougher than what I had for the Germans...

But it is fun! Hopefully my next one will be even better.

I am trying to get around the whole three hills thing by using custom maps and turning on random vics, however it appears that the vics, which I though were victory locations stay where the designer place them, like the only two in the top corner of the map. This does't really work out well when playing the AI because you can sneak in and take them at the end.
I feel like my selection of random vics is ignored but maybe I just am misunderstanding random vics.
As an aside, does anyone know a good map and or scenario site that a technical cretin like myself,( see this thread), can use?

Making maps is Gawd-Awful easy compared to stuff I've made maps for...

(StarCraft, RA, RA2, Unreal, Unreal Tournament, Quake 3:A, Half-Life)

You basically point and click your way through it, It's just time consuming to do a really detailed map, there's also alot of base maps included, I'm sure if you asked their creators, they'd let you modify then probably just with mentioning their name in the credits or something :D
