Showing the contours of the land

Hello-
I don't own the game, but I'm thinking about buying it. I own "CC:A Bridge too Far" which came out in the late 90's under the Microsoft label. I enjoy the game and this new version of CC would be a great upgrade.

One question I have, is that a weakness of "A Bridge Too Far" is that there is no way to see the contours of the land. Well sometimes you could make out the contours, like certain features just looked like cliffs or hills. But not always. It is difficult to see where the ridgelines are, for instance.

One way to see the contours of the land is to issue a direct fire order, and you could see where hills were blocking your line of sight. But even this is kind of cumbersome; there must be a better way.

I'm wondering if this weakness has been addressed in this version of the game.

Thanks.
-Scott

There is no built in tool in the game to show contour lines.

I'll have to do a search as I thought someone developed a sperate tool for something like that for CC5 which may work....

It is a 2d top down game, so it's always gonna be that you'll have to scout around a little in some areas. I experience little difficulty I must say.

Here is a tool that might give you what you are looking for; Close Combat Terrain Gradient Viewer V1.0.0.

I tried it against some CC 2 maps, and it works great.

I'm wondering if this weakness has been addressed in this version of the game.

The easiest way to address this issue within the constraints of the game as we know it would be to mark contours on the zoomed out map.
