Were these sorts of artillery ever used or were usable against ground units ?
Thanks

It is recorded that small elements were called on to fire directly on enemy positions/troops/vehicles. My initial impression is that it is doubtful that an entire regiment was concentrated in a single place and used against one target group, but rather the batteries dispersed to give mutual support for both the ADA role and for heavy-automatic-weapons support of lightly equipped infantry.
The presence of AP ammunition (in separate magazines for some weapons, mixed in belts for others (typically smaller calibre)) suggests a definite intention to use them as direct fire anti-armour weapons, even if only in self-defence.
