Guards and Moral

9)1942 Campaign morale changes. Soviet regular units dropped about 5 morale points to an average of 50 while Guards units were dropped about 10-20 points to an average of 50. German units unchanged.
I do not understand the moral changes of the Guard units in 1942. Why do I need 1942 of these units? Even the Romanians have higher moral values. I think this is a mistake, you should undo those changes

So now there is no difference between the morale of guards units and regular units? I like the pretty red colors but it seems like they should be better than average Sov units?

I think Guard unit TOE is slightly better than the regular?

I would guess that they weren't that much better in (game) moral in 1942 then most other Soviet units. They just became better with time as they got better replacements etc.

The rule is to try and show the low point of Soviet organization, implementation, and abilities. Remember, always remember, that morale is not Napoleonic morale, but rather training, staff ability, etc.

OK, but still it seems like Guards units should have some advantage over regular units...the whole reason that they are Guards is that they've already achieved some success on the battlefield, so they are presumably better led, etc.

They do have a better TOE, but the fact is that the Soviet Army was generally worn down by the winter counter offensive - in terms of men, leaders, equipment, etc. While we have not seen the end of how it plays out, the "red" units at the end of winter often were not much better than the line troops. Still, having better equipment, more of it, and such means that the Guards do go from this low point up and up (until they become the nightmare corps of 1943...)

They still should get better morale, that was the whole point to bestowing the Guards title, not just distinguish who had a different TO&E.
I hope that is just for the '42 GC.

The actual national morale is only 40 in 1942 now, so Guards units at 50 is where they should be. The regular units being near 50 (which may or may not be a typo, as it seems odd, considering the national morale of 40) is actually pretty generous.
The main goal was to make the 1942 Soviet army less resilient than it was in previous versions/less likely to stop an Axis summer offensive before it gets anywhere.
