I have been sending my more seriously damaged ships to Sydney with its shipyard and the less damaged to Noumea. I now have 14 ships at Sydney which have been docked and disbanded. I am wondering if I should send some of the less damaged ships to nearby ports and if that would speed up the repair process. I have in fact already tried to do that and I can't change them from Pierside to Readiness to form a TF & move them if indeed I should do it at all. I would appreciate guidance on how to do that and if I should.

In retrospect, perhaps I should have distributed them first and will probably do that in the future. I sent them to Sydney in large convoys after battles to protect them w/ ASW DDs etc. Once at Sydney, I could split them up in the future as long as I have enough ASW ships tp protect them. There are many Jap subs off the Aussie coast. Two ships are in the shipyard: BB NC, Normal, 97 days & CA SF Normal 5 days. These = 47,434 tons & capacity is 50,000 tons. The NC was torpedoed outside of Sydney by a Jap sub even with DD escort which sank the sub. If I try to increase the priority of any ship above Normal to High or Critical, I get a red message saying the Priority Adjusted Capacity exceeds 50,000 tons so I keep everything at Normal. This is why I am considering moving some of the repairs if it will speed up the process.

As of 9-9-42, the nearby port capacities are: Newcastle 4[2], Port Kembla 3[3], & Brisbane 5[4].

FYI, I have already searched, read the manual, formed my own opinions, & developed options. For those who care to take the time, helpful suggestions are greatly appreciated. Even constructive criticism is considered and if valid acknowledged. Personal attacks are not.

In the Southern Hemisphere, you have several ports with shipyards which is necessary for some ship damage and helps distribute some of the work.  Auckland has a size 15 SY, Brisbane and Melbourne have size 10 SYs.  There are no shipyards down under that can handle a Lexington or a BB, but they can handle most other classes of ships.

Well going from Pierside to Readiness still has a delay - so you can't form a TF with these ships until their readiness = 0.

Don't be too hard on yourself ... I think you probably did the right thing anyway.

The OP is playing Guadalcanal ... something he should probably mention [;)]

Sydney has the only on board shipyard in the Guadal scenario.
Note also that several Bases have been modified from the stock AE.

I neglected to say that I am playing the Guadalcanal Scenario so Aukland is not available, Brisbane Port Capacity is listed as 5[4] expanding 25%. I was under the impression that only Sydney has a Shipyard since Noumea, 7[4], doesn't list Shipyard for a repair category. I assume, therefore, that if I put ship[s] there, they will only be at Pierside, not Shipyard, correct?

That would be great. I'm an old geezer who is not a computer geek. I hired people to do my computer stuff in my practice. Now that I am retired, I'm trying to learn. Now, back to the original questions:
1. Should I try to move some of these lesser damaged ships to other nearby ports in order to speed up the repair process?
2. Should I raise the Priority Catagory above Normal for any ship which will put the Priority Adjusted Tonnage [PAT] in the red?
3. Raising the BB NC to High, e.g., shortens the time from 97 days to 59 days but increases the PAT to 86,834, Red. Paradoxically, changing the Priority to Critical yields 97 days, the same as Normal, & is not an option.
4. Raising the Priority Level of the CA SF, the other ship in Shipyard category, would shorten the time from 5 to 3 days freeing up Shipyard 2 days earlier for another ship, probably CA Australia, but raises the PAT to 58,834 tons - Red. Raising it to Critical doesn't shorten the time - also 3 days, not an option.
5. Removing the CA SF from Shipyard [as an example] & replacing it with CA Australia yields the following for the Australia: Normal 21 days tonnage <50,000tons; High 13 days, PAT 58,674 tons; Critical 9 days, 68,544 tons. I plan to put the Australia in Shipyard once the SF is done.

What I have done next is to see of I can put any of the above ships in a TF if I [we] decide the answer to #1 above is "Yes" so that I can move them. I have, therefore, tried to put them in a Readiness" state & will show the 2 screenpics below. Bottom line is that the only one I could get into a TF was DD Dunlap. I tried many different Mission Catagories.

Basically, The "Low Refitting" Ships which I couldn't get to classify as "Readiness" are
1. DD Dunlap - which shows no damage, but will take 6 days yet I can get it into a TF.
2. DD Corngham - which shows no damage, but will take 12 days to refit
3. DD Cummings - which shows no damage, but will take 6 days to refit
4. AO Kaskaskia - which shows only sys damage of 1 but will take 6 days to refit

Those I could classify as "Readiness" yet couldn't get into a TF are:
1. CA Canberra - which shows only Sys damage of 1, 2 days
2. xAK Steel Maker - serious damage, 85#days
3. AP Harris - serious damage, 18# days
4. AP Pres. Bowen - serious damage, 82# days
5. AP Monrovia - serious damage, 33# days
6. AP Little - serious damage, 1# day

To sum up, I plan to leave the BB NC & CA SF in Shipyard, & move CA Australia to Shipyard in 3-5 days when SF is done. I plan to leave all 6 seriously damaged ships at Sydney. I have already moved DD Dunlap into a TF. Now that I have broken things down this way, it may be that the remaining 4 ship only need refitting & can stay at Sydney. So, would it be helpful to try & move a couple of the seriously damaged ships [#2-5 above] to a nearby port & if so how to get them into a TF?

It's not just learning to crop, but also how to resize the canvas as I did in the video - that's why you're leaving a load of white space (canvas area). I realise you're on an older version of windows, but you should be able to do similar in your version of paint.

Refitting (upgrade),gives a min.time for that to occur, not just sys damage. Corningham is in shipyard.

well you've got to place them in readiness mode. Pierside means they are tied up with engines off ... Change to readiness and in a few days they'll be available to place in TF.

More bad news: I have 2 other TFs heading for Sydney with damaged ships.
TF49, 7 ships: 1 CA, 1 CL, 1 CLAA, 3 DDs, 1 xAP. 4 w/ Orange, 1 w/ Red
TF 35, 4 ships: 3 CAs, 2 Orange; 2 DDs, 1 Orange.

I plan to get them to Sydney past the Jap subs then consider sending the less damaged ones to other ports if I have enough ASW escorts. I already have 5 at Port Kembla, 4 with minor damage, 1 with serious damage.

The Good News: The Japs are hurting worse!

You do realise this scenario finishes 2 April, 43 ... some of the longer repairs should be left to just sit there ...

Also just double checked and they're whited out. Mouse over the name and you'll see how many days until they're in readiness mode.
