I have some. Quality is highly variable - but none as bad as pop-tat.

Pop-tat?
Yeah, the quality is highly variable. I have found some very good stuff out there, though and lots of it good enough for listening almost every day.
Then there's stuff which is bad, but enters the so bad it's awesome area.

I find some awesome music on Jamendo. Great site, good music to be found. Easy to donate if you find someone you like.

Thanks, I'm exploring it now.
I usually use the Internet Archive.

I've been listening to free music on
thesixtyone.com for a few years now - and the bands are new and fresh and there are some hidden gems up there. But obviously you're not going to get a lot of chart material.
They have an amusing game-like experience system tied into the ratings and exploration of new music. Plus the rather quirky full screen imagery displayed during playback, along with bubbled comments and tidbits from the artist can make listening a rewarding "viewing" experience also.

In the last few days I'm listening exclusively to the stuff downloaded from the Archive and Jamendo. I think I'll start buying exclusively from that stuff too.

I counted the Creative Commons albums that I have downloaded and I discovered that I already have 60 free albums. That's 10 more than commercial CDs/vinyls.
I have discovered that some of them are selling pressed CDs or even vinyls. I'm planning to buy one vinyl soon.

I haven't found any yet but I'll poke around. They have most everything. There is a decent search method where you can click on genres. Works fairly well.
Check out one called Diablo Swing Orchestra, album is The Butcher's Ballroom. Interesting stuff I think.

This one is a little like Evanescence:
http://www.jamendo.com/en/artist/antarhes I really like this one, singer is great!
Try the link for their metal tag:

I'm not very fond of rip-off bands. Though, it seems like some kind of improvement over Evanscence since it seems to be less effective at its attempts to drive the listener to suicide.

I have downloaded my 200th Creative Commons album today.
I have found a blog of some guy that reviews all the albums he listens on Jamendo a few days ago. He's not afraid to rate albums low, so it helps to weed out the trash.
