Is it possible to mod the weather graphics?

I invariably turn the map weather graphics off because it's very difficult for me to actually read the game map with this graphic setting in the ON position. I was wondering about the order in which the engine is reading the layers\textures because of the amount of obscuration of basic map information that occurs as a result of the weather layer\texture\overlay.

In addition, while I am a really big fan of the stock version of map art for WiTE, the speckles or dappled mud and snow graphics that are overlaid onto the map are sort of an eye sore. The weather overlays -- both mud and snow -- just don't do justice to the Map Art -- IMHO.

Just wondering how hard it might to do some sort of a white wash overlay (and maybe something similar for mud)? Perhaps an overlay that better complements the map art. At the same time omething that doesn’t obscure map information -- like a diffuse alpha texture which is perhaps has a read order below basic map info such as city names and etc above the weather texture. The read order looks like its City Names and etc. with mud or snow over the top. Makes reading the map uber tough for my eyeballs.

Short answer, Yes.

Zoom 2 and Zoom 5 map folders contain the weather files. These files have Alpha channels. Make your new pattern, create an alpha channel, then make a negative of your new pattern (invert in PhotoShop) and paste that in the Alpha channel.
