Been reading “Playing for Time” (http://www.merriam-press.com/playingfortime.aspx), a personal history by one of the officers aboard USS Stewart at the beginning of the war.
Some interesting little tidbits – small differences locations of Asiatic Fleet ships when war began.
Most sources place Bulmer with the rest of DesDiv 58 at Tarakan. This book indicates she was still in Manila Bay on December 8th (Dec 7th in Hawaii). Also Paul Jones and Barker were detached to meet Houston and Boise at sea and escort them to Tarakan.
(edit) de-typoed and unmisspelled.
