Distant Worlds: Legends Creature Contest Results!

Hi Everyone,
The official announcement will go out this weekend, but I don't want to keep you waiting any longer.
First, a huge thank you to all who participated. We had twenty five entries in total, ranging from brief ideas to fully detailed proposals with original art and multi-part background stories. Great stuff! Overall, we were very impressed at the quality of the entries and it was very difficult to narrow things down to the top ten, then the top five and then finally choose a winner. We had three of us doing the judging and each of us had our favorites. Our decision also had to keep development and art concerns in mind as well as what we thought would be best for gameplay, so those were also a factor in making our final choices. While we did end up with a consensus on the winner, we had enough proposals that we loved that we're going to try to get more than one into Distant Worlds: Legends, if time allows.
If we manage to fit more than the top entry into the expansion, the authors of those other entries will get a free copy of Distant Worlds: Legends and a note in the credits. The top prize is a free copy of Distant Worlds plus Distant Worlds: Return of the Shakturi plus Distant Worlds: Legends and a note in the credits.
So, without further ado, the winner is:
Silvermist: tm.asp?m=2924642
We liked several aspects of this proposal, from the basic idea of a cloud of ancient nanomachines to the fact that they can potentially reproduce and become a larger threat, as well as their increased vulnerability to ion weapons.
Congratulations to WiZz for winning the creature contest! Please e-mail me at erikr@matrixgames.com so that we can get you your prizes and get your information for the credits.
Here are the top runners-up:
Eraser: tm.asp?m=2922147
Quagnii Swarms: tm.asp?m=2916489
Ghost Ship: tm.asp?m=2914984
And the rest of the finalists (our top ten), which all could have made the final cut:
Siren: tm.asp?m=2916448
Unidentified Dark Matter Object: tm.asp?m=291735
Crystallus: tm.asp?m=2919438
Avatars of Ancients/Darkness: tm.asp?m=2921164
Void Gravi: tm.asp?m=2921583
Tech Eradicator: tm.asp?m=2914857
Thank you again and even if your entry did not win or make the top ten, don't be discouraged! There were a lot more quality entries than just the top ten! Thanks for your participation and creativity and for making this a rewarding experience for us as well as judges. We hope you will enjoy Distant Worlds: Legends and we hope to have more opportunities for your input into Distant Worlds in the future!
Regards,
- Erik
