I'm interested in looking at the 3D models outside the game. I've installed a DirectX viewer that will show the .x file of a turret or hull of a tank for instance but not the entire vehicle. Is it possible to see the entire vehicle outside the game?

There are some good looking models in the game and I'd like to have a closer look at them. Thanks.

Unless that viewer can load several .x objects at once then no.

Just make a test scenario with the models that you want to see are the only ones in the scenario. You choose that side and just zoom around those models.
