I was just wondering if there is a limit on the number of png files a race can make use of?

It's just that for a mod race like say Star Trek where the Federation has lots of different ships all of a similar class could you make for example an Ambassador class, Constitution class, Nebula class cruisers etc. each with their own ship settings and separate png file so you can tell them apart. Will the game crash if too many different ship types or images are used, is there a cap on graphics or is it just down to each PC and how powerful it is as to whether it can cope with it all?

Yes you can add subtype pictures since RotS. And yes you can manually add pictures to ships they were not meant to have. For example you could build a space station looking like a capital ship... or vice versa... by symply using the picture in the picture slider.
 
Actually you can use all pictures in the game for your own ships.

Thx, i just wondered as i just read the game customization guide and it says something about the games race file being limited to only 9 different 'family ship sets', i guess the guide must be a little out of date now after the expansion!?!

You can do more than 9... I presently have 29 races... but the developer warned that after a certain point, the platform is unstable. I have done 29 SW races and 16 ship sets with no problem.
The guide is a little out of date.
And from what I gather, there have been major improvements in the platform so you may be able to do more with it when SW: Legends comes out.

Fubar, you may have already noticed that in my Star Trek TRSE mod, there's an extra shipset with ship images from various races. When running the mod, just create a new design and scroll to the bottom of the image selector for the extra ships images.

Federation has the most (I think about 6), but there's a few there for other races.

In fact, here's the screenshot I made to show the full Federation fleet...

Ah thats great to hear, maybe i'm just a sad ol' geek but i do love to have all the 'canon' ship classes to play around with......i even tried to rename my Feds home planet star base 'Utopia Planitia Yards'!!  [:D]
I love the progression of the Star Trek universe, ships like the Excelsior were once top of the line and now their Destroyers. I wonder what will replace the Sovereign? lol

So far my nice relaxing 2 week break from work has turned into a 2 week Distant Worlds modathon of epic proportions... [X(]

I'm currently building a Klingon Vor'cha cruiser. Once I'm finished that, I'll build something Star Wars. Maybe a Star Destroyer...

Nice, the venerable old D-7 was always my fav Klingon ship. I have a Star Wars Millenium Falcon cut-away model that i've love to try and make some day, its about 20" across in size.....its been in my 'vault' for over 15 years!

I just need to build up the courage to try making it. lol

I've considered buying that very model. It has a number of inaccuracies, but that's not too important for me. It's a nice big size.

The model forum where I post is doing a group build of the millenium falcon right now. I'm not taking part in it as I'm not ready to build a Falcon just yet.

Wow what an awesome website, some very talented people on there for sure. Even lighting the cockpit of a YT1300 [X(]

Problem is even if i did want to get back into model making again all the local model shops i used to visit have long since closed down and not been replaced, guess models just aren't cool enough for kids any more, the only shops similar are the GW stores but their so expensive and only sell their own products. [:(]

It's a very helpful website for beginners too.

My local hobby shop closed just over a month ago.[:(]

I got most of what I need online. The only problem is when you run out of something, you've got to wait a few days for it, rather than just nip down the shop. It can be frustrating when it holds everything up. (That's when I turn to Distant Worlds)[;)]

Yeah, I think you make a GOOD point, but if you really wanted to strike home against the Trek folks you would have taken the SW gal you used and then take the woman below.
