Supplying subunits etc.

Does breaking down a unit into subunits makes them worse at getting supplied? I think there was something like that in the manual, but can't trace that again unfortunatelly. I am asking since it's fairly known a fact that breaking down -be it a battalion into companies or a regiment into battalions makes them have lower roficiency rate and once reunited they display a lower number that the initial one yet before dividing that into smaller parts.

I divided my chopper regiments and battalions in Vietnam to allow them to cover more area, but some of them being stationed far in the boondocks may suffer from low supply level, especially during the monsoon seasons or after some VC strikes at RVN infrastructure. So far I haven't seen them being low on supply, but is the supply net likely to get overburdened at some point with diverting the supplies to various locations? Or it has something to do with the number of units present in the theater, their activities and the overall number of transport vehicles available?Maybe respective HQs fare worse by having to send supplies to three companies instead of one organic battalion in a single location?

...Sub-units will have only about 80% of the parent unit’s proficiency. If you recombine your units, the newly recombined par-ent unit will have 125% of the average sub-unit’s proficiency. This means that the act of dividing a unit and recombining it will result in no permanent loss of the unit’s Proficiency.

That might influence the supply percentage they get from the supply net. Remember, the HQ gives adjacent units *regardless which formation* a supply bonus; they don't act as supply source.

I do not think that sub-dividing a unit -- in and of itself -- will degrade the sub-units supply capability. Supply is force and formation distributed, according to the rail/road/terrain network, so I think that it only matters where the sub-unit is positioned. Same as with an undivided unit.

Of course, with 3.4, the supply radius is in MPs vs hexes, but again that affects units same as sub-units. And there are scenario specific potential tweaks -- like variable supply points, variable capabilities, 'hidden rail/motorised', etc. -- but overall, I think supply is not a factor in whether or not to sub-divide for most scenarios.

I believe Ogar is correct as far as supply goes.

The only other effect of subdividing besides the proficiency hit is that a formation with a lot of subdivided units will be more likely to suffer a combat reorganization.
