Question about updates

I had Distant Worlds and it was updated to 1071 I believe.
I've just bought the Shakturi addon and the Legends addon - do I have to run anymore updates? Do I have to update Distant Worlds base game anymore? Do I have to install the updates for Shakturi or does the Legends addon do all the work?
Thx

If you already have the Distant Worlds original installed just do the following:
- Install Return of the Shakturi
- Install Legends
That should be all you need to do. Any future updates would be for Legends only.

Hi Elliot,
I'm sure you're right but you might want to update the 'whatsnew.pdf' which writes with installation.
Excepts:
"Distant Worlds – Legends
Read me File – 20 November 2011
Version 1.7.0.0"
...
"Please note that Distant Worlds: Legends requires an up-to-date installation of
Distant Worlds + Distant Worlds: Return of the Shakturi. These should be installed
and updated before Distant Worlds: Legends is installed."
Note: you only get this document (on direct download at least) once you have installed Legends!

Elliot, please can you confirm that the Legends install contains all the latest patches for the base game and Shakturi?
Can you also add the install order to the Legends release sticky as I'm sure other people are curious too.

I did a fresh install.
1: Install Distant Worlds
2: Install Return of the Shakturi
3: Install Legends
Done.
But now you want to add the first Legends beta patch as step 4.

As far as I know, it's still a good idea to make sure you have the latest version of Return of the Shakturi before installing Legends, as per the readme. I'll double-check that with Elliot, it may not matter.
Regards,
- Erik

I recently built a new rig and am in the process of reinstalling/copying the games over so I am reviving this thread to confirm that install order (and confirm for others that may want to do a fresh install for Shadows). If someone thinks this is wrong (e.g. I need to do latest patch for every game before putting next expansion on top) please let me know, but here is was my install order:
1. Distant Worlds 1.0.6.0
2. Return of Shakturi 1.5.0.0
3. Legends 1.7.0.0
4. Latest patch - Legends 1.7.0.20

Tampa_Gamer: The install order looks correct. Enjoy the DW experience on your new rig.

I always start the game before installing the next expansion.
Install DW
Install latest DW patch
Start DW
Exit DW
Install ROS
Install latest ROS patch
Start ROS
Exit ROS
Install L
Install latest L patch
Play the game
Don't really know if it helps, but I have had problems installing the game and expansions a few times (the installer seems finicky). It could be me doing placebo stuff. Worked last time at least.

Appreciate the feedback from both of you. Buio - I really hope that install order is an over-abundance of caution! Since each expansion is dependent on the base + prior expansions, I would think the 4 step process I outlined would be sufficient. If it is not, then Matrix really needs to correct this with the Shadows Expansion.

Just bouncing this thread for purposes of the release in the next few weeks. Since Shadows requires all prior expansions I would hope that the install process can be simplified for those purchasing and new to the game, especially given the cumulative amount of money paid for all the pieces.

ORIGINAL: Buio
I always start the game before installing the next expansion.
Oddly, nobody has corrected this post...
Install DW
Install latest DW patch
Start DW
Exit DW
Install ROS
Install latest ROS patch
Start ROS
Exit ROS
Install L
Install latest L patch
Play the game
Steps in red are not necessary as far as I know. It seems that Erik has forgotten to update with feedback from Elliot.

What Kayoz wrote. If you have Legends failing to start, it could be an idea to try to start each expansion as you try to install again, though.
I would also be very surprised if shadows is not
- Install DW
- Install ROTS
- Install Legends
- Install Shadows
- (Patch shadows)
If any of the earlier expansions are patches or not, does not matter. So unless you want many versions installed, just install Shadows on top of your current Legends install.

Kayoz and Bingeling have the right formula. If Matrix makes any changes to the install procedure it would be making a big mistake and cause a lot of chaos.

Sorry, I must be missing something. Since Shadows is completely dependent on having all prior expansions, I see no reason why the install order cannot be:
- Install Shadows (confirm integrity of all prior files and replace if needed)
- Install latest patch for Shadows
What do we gain by putting new users (and old when they build a new system) through the complicated process of installing each expansion in sequential order?
[edit, sorry just realized why it *had* to be that way since each expansion sold separately...still a pain! and still a good way to alienate new users right from the getgo after they just shelled out plenty of $$]

This is becoming a farce. There needs to be a complete version (at a reasonable price point).

I really believe Matrix is hearing you on all the pricing concerns, but at this point I don't think they have made any marketing decisions as of yet. If I had to purchase the whole shootin' match at one time, (and not have a demo to try), I would find myself hesitating quite a lot. Fortunately I purchased the original game and each expansion separately as they were released. It made it easier for my budget to digest.
I am confident there will be a major marketing change for DW in the future. How far away this will be is unknown.

It would be nice if the Launcher, when you click 'Check for Update' instead of just saying you are up to date, it would give you the actual version number as well. Just a line "Version 1.7.0.20" or such.
