Automated base construction - quick Q

I've got just about everything in the automation options set to either manual or suggest, but it's still autobuilding research stations on it's own. Is there an option somewhere to manually control this that I'm missing, as I don't remember it doing this when I played last a year or so ago.

The constructors will decide what type of stations to build all by themselves IF they are automated. They will not ask or suggest. If you don´t want this to happen, you need to "un-automate" them. Of course at that point you need to figure out all by yourself which rescources you need and where to get them. This is impractical if not impossible to do manually.

On the other hand, I found the constructors to be pretty smart about placing stations. If they build a research station that means that you are probably lacking one to max out your research potential (and there is just absolutely no reason to do that) or that you are still not exploiting a "bonus" you would get for research by building one at a "research site" like a neutron star or so. These bonuses are paramount in achieving a tech lead. They allow you to go over your population-determined research limit, so get them whenever possible.

I'll keep that in mind, last time I really played, bonus research sites were not not a bonus per type of research, but an overall bonus, so I could get away with having a few general purpose research stations around a black hole and not worry about it since the research provided was so far above the population based limit. I'd like it to suggest instead of autobuild, tbh, but as long as its just research stations that autobuild it's not an issue.
Anyways, thanks for the info.

Glad to help. Keep in mind that always the "largest" bonus applies. So if you have general bonus of 20% it would still make sense to build one for 21% hi-tech somewhere else...

What are you talking about? I manual my constructors all game long. [:)]

Although they do a passable job when automated they can be very dumb at times. They seem very dumb when building research stations (read usually very inappropriate) at the moment according to what you automated units are saying. [:'(]

I ran my single Legends game this one (which my AI cruised into victory at the end, 80% at a 15x15 max size galaxy takes time...). The constructors were automated, and built a total of 3 research bases, some which may have been manually queued by me in early game. This could be race dependent, though. I played the ackdarians.
