Carrier Fleets and Launching

I have a fleet of six carriers that I sent to attack a fleet. When they arrived at the system they just sat there and never launched their fighters. I had to do it manually for each one. Should they not do this automatically?

They only launch when they get attacked or when you order them to attack something.

If your carrier got weapons, you just get the red aim cross when you move over an enemy object.
If you dont got weapons you need to use the right click menu and select the attack command.

Yeah I could not order them to attack when I hovered over the enemies there was no crosshair?

were you at war with this fleet?

Yep it seems if you have a fleet of carriers only you cannot target another fleet or launch fighters automatically?

Have you tried righ-clicking and ordering an attack?

Thats odd, you would assume that carriers use the 1:1, 2:1, 3:1 ratio your empire combat ratio uses and 'clear the decks'. Possible bug?

I noticed that I had to right clickto order attack with my ships as well (they were not carriers). i think it could be a feature so you don't accidentally attack ships of empires you are not at war with.

Personally, I think ships and bases should automatically launch fighters/bombers whenever an enemy presence is detected in their system... or, at least within a certain range
Atm, they only auto-launch in self-defence (not defence of others) and when the enemy is already on top of them

Also just discovered that if you do not declare war and you attack a target and you have a fleet with carriers in it the fighters will not attack but just fly around! No Pearl Harbor in this game!

it isn't just carriers. good or bad, you are going to encounter a number of frustrations trying to attack other empires without declaring war.

for example, the other faction will counterattack the offending vessels, but your ships will sit idly by without defending their comrads from the counterattack. if you're not manually controlling things (and watching) you will lose warships.
