Is there an easy way to turn off the giant, black UV
when printing the manual?

IIRC you need to do two things (suggest you print a single page to test this):

1) Make sure you are using Acrobat Reader 5.0 or later.

2) Print it in high quality/graphics mode.

I remember seeing a thread on this right after UV came out, but can't remember which UV subforum. You may what to do a search if the above doesn't work.

Check "print as image" and you´re fine
