Hi everybody,
I remember following this forum under the development but somehow never bought the game.
Now I just started rereading the sharpe novels and started thinking about EiA which I played for many years.

Is the game any good? and does it represent the boardgame?
I have read and heard from old friends that the game is somewhat plaugued by bugs and sub par AI. Is that true, and is it something one can live with?

Any feedback would be appreciated.

Welcome Lujer the game is vastly improved from first release,and is more stable ie less bugs with the latest update,Marshall the game developer, is working behind the scene on improving the AI + other advances,so in a nut shell I would buy the game as it is now!!![;)]

Thank you. I remember reading Marshalls post under development of the game but somehow I lost track of the game and never even realised it was finished.

I was getting to your conclusion after reading about EIA the boardgame online and I felt my itch to play the game again.
We had a pretty stable group of players when I played the boardgame for 5 years or so and I really miss what the game offers in diplomacy, strategy and tactics.

I figure I would learn the mehcanics of the game in single player but I expect to want to play against human players.
Can you (or anybody else) recommend a way for getting in on a good group of players?

The Generals HQ group up above in the Opponents Wanted section is a good place to start for getting in on a group.

To echo what kirk23 said, this is a good time to get into the game, or back into the game as the case may be. One of the biggest complaints from the EiA vets about playing this PC game version was about the pbem multiplayer mode problems: pbem bugs/crashes, limited admin capability to make some game edits, too long to play (no combined phases), etc. Most all of these are now resolved with the latest patch (in various stages of development for over two years now!) and the game is very stable. I think some are still waiting for an "official" final v1.08 patch, which Matrix intends to offer as a standalone comprehensive patch finally so players don't have to apply multiple patches, but really the latest v1.08.07 beta patch is for all intents and purposes final and playable. And, the latest patch has the updated user manual which now includes EiA strategy articles from the old General magazine, which should help newbies get up to speed.

The game still has some lingering bugs, the classic EiA map and force pools are still on the to-do list, some modest AI improvements and enhancements are planned, and the game editor and admin menu still need a few features added so we can start cranking out new campaigns. Hopefully Marshall will get to these when he finds time. Keep your fingers crossed! [8D]

The old general articles from Hanson i think his name is really got me interested again. I can´t wait to get back home from work so I can download the game.

Please check out the v1.08 upgrade note above. You'll need to install the game, then install the v1.06.03 patch from the downloads area, then install the v1.07.01 patch from FilePlanet or someplace else (not Matrix?), and then install the v1.08.07 beta patch from the registered members area. Yes, this is a pain but it is doable. Be prepared to reboot your PC to fix any font issues that may appear. And... once you get through all that and activate the StarForce DRM key for another $14.95, you're all set to play! (JUST KIDDING ABOUT STARFORCE! [:D])

Nope, everything is in the game manual. The updated manual for v1.08 has corrections and revisions that keep up with all the patch changes, more clarifying tips and examples, plus additional material like the old player notes and strategy articles. The intent of all that is to help new players get up to speed quickly and be able to enjoy the game.
