Fleet Management

I just spent a bunch of money to build a lot of ships at about 15 planets. I then spent a lot of time (this could be easier - like a build fleet button on the shipyard screen) going through the ship list and making sure that the ships being produced at each planet were in their own fleet. This way the fleets would be ready to go, and not have to waste time assembling upon production.
Anyhow, the computer decided it was too many fleets and combined them all into two fleets!
I then repeated the ship/fleet selection and the computer recombined them all again!
This is soooo wrong![:-]
I have NO automation on (except mustering troops, which doesn't seem to work either) and am running 1.7.0.4.

I've never seen that without fleet formation automation on. Could you upload a save file please?

Uploaded Boskara Conformity 2789-05-25.dwg.
This is after the first combining, but before the second.

well, I had this problem before - so I went out of my way to ensure that all fleet auo=tomation was off.

I would dearly LOVE an add to fleet dropdown menu on each ship type in the build order screen.

Couldn't reproduce this with your savegame: your new 20th and 24th fleets did not disband or recombine in any way.
I did notice you lost a few ships in those fleets as they went off to fight nearby threats, etc. Maybe that's what you were seeing?

The save i sent you was after the first consolidation. I suppose I separated them all again before the second consolidation. Unfortunately it is the only save I have. If I get the time I will parse them out again , save and then see what happens. thanks for looking.
btw, the answer is no, what I observed was the disappearance of several fleets as they consolidated into two large fleets.

My first fleet, which was not automated, set to a defense posture, defend sector, and based at Trassetan 1, the main border colony with the hated Mortelen Sovereignty, responded en masse to a single Mortelen destroyer going to attack a mining station in the neighboring Diltus system within the sector defense radius.
I don't have issues with that, I would have preferred only a portion of the fleet go as I currently had a blockade order for that fleet on a small colony that my valiant troops were retaking from the Mortelens, but overall not an issue. After they arrived in Diltus and successfully dispatched the destroyer they then rebased at the Diltus mining station, and their posture is now Defend Diltus 4 Gas Mining Station and Sector. As I said there was nothing automated about this fleet so I would not expect the fleet to assign itself a new base/home colony. Is this WAD or bug?

That is currently WAD: if Fleet Formation is automated then all fleets can have their postures altered.
But on reflection this is probably not desirable. In the next update we'll alter this: for a fleet posture to be changed both Fleet Formation should be automated and the fleet itself must also be automated.

oh yes, that would be most useful, especially in late game, i spent alot of time 'collecting' the new build ships into fleets. Iam just in the middle of my first big long game, and i love it btw

+1. I found myself wishing for this too. With the new fleet postures I build defence fleets frequently. Assembling fleets, setting the posture and home base is most efficient when purchasing the ships.
