Convoys

As its implemented now, the convoy system is pretty challenging if playing as the British. This is a good thing. However, it would nice to see some sort of ability to assign escorts to these convoys in the future. Often, it seems that one surface raider or a couple U-boats in a given sea zone will decimate virtually every ship in a passing convoy......taking no damage whatsoever in the process ( we're talking like 80 transport points lost in a single sea zone). Attacking convoys as the war progressed was a risky affair for u-boats.....advances in ASW making it all the more challenging in '43 and '44. If the escort system cannot be implemented, than perhaps reducing the destructive power of the subs may be in order. I have been sending out fleets to patrol/and deal with u-boat issues as they arise......but their luck has not been too stellar.

You may want to read the strategy guide in the war room.
Read your reports every turn. Move your ships into the sea zones to attack.
You must Hunt down the subs or the AI will win the game.

It's more challenging if playing Italy. You will bankrupt youself buying convoys and the convoys will never get to North Africa.

There is no problem to change the amount of losses dealt by the subs and riders, but I would like to hear opinion of other people.

Yeah, I've been reading the convoy reports to see where the attacks are taking place. The best luck I've had dealing with them thus far is to order carrier air strikes in the sea zone. It seems to be most effective. Surface ships (CA groups BB or CV in the naval battle screen) seem to miss about 85% of the time. Even if none of my surface fleets is in a sea zone, there should be some sort of possibility of strength loss to a U-Boat from escort activity. I know this may hard to implement, so maybe reducing U-Boat effectiveness is the way to go.

The cost for transports is very cheap.
England is suppose to suffer.
They did in real life.
We tested this quite a bit. The settings are fine. If anything they should be stronger.

CVEs my friend. They're cheap and fast to build, indeed, comparable to subs. This is the cost effective response to sub spam.

Ahhhh....didn't notice the CVE's. Much cheaper. Thanks for the tip.
