When you lower the volume for sound effects, it doesn't lower the volume on the various menu beeps.

Not much of an issue, but I like to play music in the background while playing and those BEEPS can get grating.

You could try entering the directory:
C:\Program Files\Matrix Games\Distant Worlds\Sounds\Effects (that is the default install location)
and put the following:
message_Alarm.wav
message_Major.wav
message_Minor.wav
message_Standard.wav
into a zip file (just in case you want to enable them again)

Yeah, I usually turn music to max and sound effects down to 1/4 or so. Which is a bummer, because I want to hear all the space-pew-pew, but those alarm popups are LOUD! Although there is a mod around here somewhere that fixes that.

I play Enigma while I play this. Excellent space music imho.
