"Lost in the gedunk"!

Repairs were about as finished as I could afford, so I PURCHASED a very good carrier commander, put him on the Enterprise and slipped out of Sydney with only a lone Cl as escort, northbound, (to support landings near Milne Bay).

These ships were being met by another force including 4 DD's and a CA.
Problem is, once the forces met and I combined them, the PAID FOR high dollar commander vanished and I acquired the CV's Cpt in his place..

Is the fleet commander "lost in the gedunk", or is he swimming for Brisbane?

How can I prevent this in future?..(I ask this question here in case this might be a problem michaelm might be able to fix??)

I think that the lower numbered TF get the commander of the combined TF, but is only a guess

It's been a while since I tried it, but can't you still transfer ships manually one-at-a-time from one TF to another as long as both TFs are in the same hex with the same mission?

Yes - but who is the commander of the TF will still get reevaluated. At least that's what I've seen.

Ouch, Bob. I hate it when that happens! Maybe Michael would consider adding a check to at least keep a higher ranking commander in place - that would mimic reality AFAIK.

Not if you DON'T transfer the flagship of the other force.

Good to know, unfortunately that won't help most of the time I run into it.
