I am playing as the USSR in Barbarossa and aren't interested in the Allies naval battles but I keep getting dialog boxes telling me of battles in the Med and Atlantic. I can't find how to turn them off. I tried turning off "Naval Battles autocalculated" in preferences but that didn't help.

There is no such possibility. We will try to make it more customizable in the future. This feature has been added after many many requests of players in previous games.
