What happens with negative global Recon values?

Does anybody have insight on what happens when global recon values go negative?
I was editing a Scenario and pushed recon levels for one side to negative values.
Nothing bad happened, it was just really hard to see the opponent's units away from the front line... which is what I wanted

.
But is anything else happening under the hood that I should be aware of when recon levels go negative? It seems that 'zero' recon means 'very low recon' but no other special meaning on a continuous scale that actually can go to negative values.

I believe zero recon means hexes which are not adjacent to friendly units will always be in "unknown" status. There's no way for recon to get worse than that, and frankly I'm surprised the variable can even hold a negative number.
So in short, nothing, except that if there are other events which boost recon, they will take longer to get it into positive figures.

Oh that is perfectly sensible then! Good to know.
I am a fan of fog of war being a relevant part of a scenario and in the one I am putting together (shameless plug: Eastern Front 41-45...release Jan 1st?) I have events (simulating deception campaigns as pre-Bagration) that change the recon values that are already in the 5-10 range. Depending on the date when an event is activated the recon value can hover close to zero for a while..or just below. Glad to know that nothing weird happens. The 'situation screen' will show negative recon values.

See post #5 in this thread:

This seems to indicate that when recon helicopters are involved, negative theater recon values do make a difference.

Guys,
Just to clarify the situation...
Theater recon works like a global dimmer switch that sets the base for other (localized recon) assets. As far as I am aware it works that way for everything and not just recon helicopters. I might as well add (since it is a problem in some scenarios) that the theater recon event is additive. So if you have a theatre recon value of 10 and you want to reduce it to 5 then you need a -5 event value. Having theatre recon at = 40, spy network shut down, theatre recon = 10 just increases the theatre recon to 40.
Best wishes,
Steve

I don't think it has any effect on the ability of ground units to spot adjacent units (i.e. see their strength numbers rather than just the icon). I'd also assume the same for spotting based on peaks.

Ben,
Yes you are right. My apologies to all for confusing the issue.
Best wishes,
