PT's and Depleted LCU's

So much to learn in this game! And I have learned much by referring to this forum - so thanks to all the contributors for your invaluable information. [&o]

I have two questions that I cannot resolve after months of trying:

1) First, I cannot figure out how to place PT's in the "pool" to move them to another base. I also have great difficulty building them, though, on my third solo game, I have not passed May of '42 yet. Is this a time related issue? I understand the supply requirements, yet I can only build a handful once and a while in my major bases. And they do me no good stuck on the West Coast.

2) I saw a number of references to rebuild destroyed/depleted land units by spending PP's. I have some beat up British divisions which have had some sub units destroyed. (Though they did inflict substantial casualties before I evac'd some from Singapore!) How do I rebuild these to full strength? Will "replacements" do this over time, though the TOE looks substantially depleted. I also read mentions of going to the "I" screen, and under "Ground Reinforcements" that there is a link to destroyed LCU's, yet I see no such button. What am I missing? I believe I have the most recent version of WITP-AE.

Thanks for any help. It will take me longer to learn this game than the actual Pacific War took! (But I love it so.) [:)]

PTs are produced in block runs at various points during the war and added to the PT pool. The total number of PTs in the pool can be seen by pressing the <I> key, then pressing the ship availability button along the right hand side.

If you have PT available in the pool they can only be built:

(a) at an American or Australian base

(b) from a task force whose merchantmen loaded their supply originally at an American base

Use them wisely and they will be of great benefit. They may be small but they can cause major havoc under the right circumstances. You just have to create or exploit those circumstances. Hal

Thanks all. The "Return to Pool" button showed up when I upgraded to the Beta version.

Thanks for explaining the block build. When I read the manual I thought I could build them anytime in port or with a transport and supply.

I have found that they tend to retreat too quickly, even on absolute threat tolerance. But have read that the Beta fixes some of these issues.

At work so I can't get a screenshot for you, but if you go to teh Information interface (the button at the top with an "i" that gives you all the info on victory points, units killed, etc... and then click on Ship Availability which gives you the schedule of your ship reinforcements, near the bottom left of that interface is a list of the available pool amounts of PTs, MTBs and Landing Craft (barges).

The game starts with the pool at 0 and it takes a while before any of those block builds begin to fill the pool. You can get a useable pool by sending the ones that begin the game on board back to the pool. It takes 30 days plus repair time to become available.

As for retreating, you need the most aggressive commanders you can find to ensure they have a chance of closing to torp range. Combine very aggressive commanders with absolute threat tolerance for the best performance.

Also use them when the night is a picth of darkness (0%Moonlight) and they can do wonders!

I've sunk the Yamato in my Pbem against Rader with 3 PTs' torps that cause a magazine explosion[&o][&o]
