Mystery of disappearing Div commander

In my game, latest beta, April 43,
BGEN Noble A. was designated as the commander of 2rd Marine Div and MGEN Arnold Archibald V was designated as the commander of 24th Div right before the Operation Galvanic.
This two divisions took Tabiteuea on D-day with a total casualties less than 200. Unfortunately, after the short combat, the president of United States want to personally congrats these two generals' victory but failed to do so. They just disappeared, vanished in the air. These two divisions are now under command of much incompetent generals.
The two divs finished unloading in one turn, and don't have any fragments anywhere on the earth.
I suppose these two generals are too brave and get them killed during the first landing wave.
But my common sense told me this is not the case. Can someone tell me what happened? And I feel this is a game bug left from the era of WITP.
