I know it's somewhere in here on the forums but my searches were fruitless. Can somewhen tell me the date when the Japanese unload bonus stops?
Still have some more empire to conquer......

I believe you get 84 days of bonus. i.e. 7th March 1942 it will be gone.

I'll echo what Chickenboy says I always thought it ended April 1, 1942 . Here's what the manual states.
6.3.3.3.2 AMPHIBIOUS UNLOADING
The Amphibious Unload Rate bonus applies only to ships in an Amphibious TF. Amphibious Unload rates are determined by ship type (i.e., beaching craft, amphibious ship types, or ordinary transport/cargo ship types). There are no Port-derived cargo handling limits. Amphibious Unload only applies to Troops and Cargo (equipment and supply). Amphibious Unload does not apply to Fuel, Oil or Resources. Note that there is also an "initial operations" bonus for the Japanese during the first 4 months of the war.
Amphibious Unload may be used in two situations: an assault unloads over the beach, and amphibious unload in a small friendly port. Amphibious Unload Rate bonuses differ for the two situations.

-- Attack Amphibious Ships. (APA/AKA plus LSD, LSV and British equivalents)
in Amphibious TFs, unload at a Rate of 3000 points per ship, per turn.
--Regular Transport Ships. (Commissioned Naval AP/AK) in Amphibious
TFs, unload at a Rate of 600 points per ship per turn.
-- Merchant Ships. (xAP/xAK) in Amphibious TFs, unload
at a Rate of 250 points per ship per turn.
--Special Japanese early war bonus of 1200 for all AP/AK and xAP/xAK types.

In bonus time your troop will unload faster.
So yo will be able to make fast invasions. I am not sure numbers but i think it is 1200 point per phase or more.
Normally it is 100-300 points (different ships classes have different unload speed). So you can unload in one day instead of 3-5 days not giving chance to react to your enemy
Also your units will suffer smaller losses during unload and squads will not disable as much as normally
If i am wrong can someone correct me
EDIT: SuluSea was faster

I have a related question, does anyone know if the AMC class ships (Manoora class, the Guadalcanal scenario has two at the start) are considered to be Regular Transport (600 rate) or Merchant Ships (250 rate). In the manual, it specifically states the penalty in the xAP and xAK descriptions, and not in the AMC description, but it is also named Auxillary Merchant Cruiser, so hard to tell. (of course they upgrade to an LSI, but for the first month or so...)

What is even more important than the fast unloading is the fact that the IJ troops don't need any preparation to land somewhere so they don't get disabled/destroyed during landing. This is the real hammer of the amphib bonus.

Indeed. If every unit had to prepare 70 days for each invasion, it would be totally impossible to keep historical expansion rate.

I've always wondered if it included xAKLs.....
Edit: I think it does....

A very worthwhile addition, Castor. I already thought so and came to ask about it in this thread..... you already have it answered. Not having to prep one;s troops for three months but just instantly land them is a great boon to the japanese player (of course it shouldn't be abused). It's great for occupying the dozens of basis in the PI/SRA area's. I think they put it in for that reason as well.

Yep, it seems to apply to any ship capable of carrying troops or supply.

well, not really when you keep in mind that usually it takes the IJ PBEM players 4 months max to take all (or at least most of) the SRA, having taken everything real life Japan needed three times longer and heck, they moved fast already. The amphib bonus starts to become bogus as soon as the IJ starts to land far far outside of the areas the amphib bonus was meant to help. With the amphib bonus, you don't have to really plan your invasions, not enough sent, just send more to take the place, preparation not needed anyway. And this is again where it is highly different to real life, because I think the IJ really planned their operations, at least the 100% succesful early ones. Let the IJ accumulate two points prep per day instead of one and screw the bonus.

main reason for it was helping the AI I guess.
