Little help from experienced players...

Getting back to try the game after a while (never played that much, but still...) and found this when googleing for strategy guides:
http://grognard.com/info1/warruss.txt
It's quite old, so I'd like some confirmation from more experienced players on whether or not it is still valid info. Especially this chapter:
VI. Over the Reich (Some Strategic Bombing considerations).

You definitely want Fw 190As defending the Reich. Make sure they are at full strength and about 75% experience.
As for fighter-bombers, the Bf-110s are very effective when there are no defending escort fighters, however they still suffer a high degree of attrition. However the Fw-190Fs are actually pretty good.
Forget the Bf-109s, both Fs and Gs.
At the beginning I usually place one or two squadrons in the OKW HQ and one in the Italian Front HQ. The range of the aircraft in these two front is 20 hexes, regardless of their stated range.
In addition, you may want to place one normal HQ (usually the Hungarian HQ) within 7 hexes of Budapet, and another one (a Romanian one) in Romania, within 7 hexes of Bucharest and Ploesti. Each HQ with one squadron.
Make a note that any air unit in the Western and Italian Front HQs will suffer attrition, in addition to that of combat.
By 1944, you may want to increase the squadrons by one in each of the HQs.
Cheers

Good find, but this information seems to be from ver. 1.1 and a lot has changed to bring the game to ver. 3.3 (for example, there were many attempts to adjust blizzard effects), so read in conjunction with the list of changes, supplied in the WIR download. The main .pdf manual has never been updated from ver. 1.0 and is a good starting point, but read with caution.
Look in the
readme.txt in the WIR folder to see the changes since Matrix took over WIR as ver 2.0 (see attachment) [:)]

Haha, I totally forgot that comes with the download too. I did read it the last time I played but apparently all the info had just flown away and I only read the pdf-manual this time.
Thanks for pointing that out.
Another question came to mind. Do the Soviet Guards Armies have same characteristics as regular Soviet Armies? No bonuses or boost to stacking limits etc?

From what I remember, Guard units gain experience faster.

Yes, I know the Guards Rifle Divisions, Guards Tank Corps, Guards Mechanized Corps, etc etc. train up experience faster but I meant the Guards Armies. Seems to me they behave just the same, and have the same stacking points, as regular Armies but I'm not quite sure...

I don't think there's any difference either.
