Ok to patch the base game (BftB) then add expansion (HttR2) later?

Not that this is an official answer, but I applied the patch before even buying the expansion. Can't imagine why it wouldn't work since the patch is meant for everyone, regardless if you have the expansion or not.

yeah patch is for BftB. I think HTTR already includes the patch...

First off the HTTR expansion includes the latest patch #3. The patch is a comprehensive patch - ie it will patch the game no matter what the current version ( original, patch #1, patch #2 or patch #3. So you can do things in any order you like.
