question about 'secure bridge'?

Does anyone know - if I detatch a unit and order it to secure a bridge, what does it do once it has achieved that objective? Hang around for a bit then reattach itself to its parent HQ (what I've seen happening, I think), revert to 'Defend' at the site of the bridge (what I'd like it to do), or something else? I mean, what is meant to happen? Recently I watched a unit secure a bridge then somehow reattach itself to its HQ and wander off, leaving enemy units across the other side of the river a freebie.

Scratch that question. I see now that the unit in question actually routed away and this seemed to have the affect of reattaching it to the HQ. Whcih I guess is ok.

What should happen is the force ordered to secure a crossing should defend there till you give it another order. As a general rule we try and avoid second guessing what the player wants.

It would be normal, then, that if it routs it reattaches?

No, why should it. In RL if a unit was given an order and routed it would still be under those orders and so that is what should happen here.

Oh, well, that's not what happened. It reattached itself, in fact.

I seem to be noticing a few reattach anomalies. I'll have to save more.

It reattached itself, ran off (not necessarilly in that order) and the enemy took the bridge.

Be careful here. What might appear to you as a reattachment may not be so in practice. Next time confirm the command arrangement by ensuring that you have the player structure displayed and select the unit and note the command line drawn to its superior.
