Defense support modifiers

I was wondering should we implement the defense support modifier?
In other words, if a unit is attacked, and there are other friendly units, should we implement some bonus to the defenders strength.
What I'm thinking is about 10-20% if the base strength of the defending unit.

Of course this modifier will be moddable.

Absolutely. However the number should depend on the strength of adjacent units, not base unit. If defender is 20 str unit and you have an adjacent 1 str unit, you shouldn't be able to get a 2 strength boost. On the other hand, if a 1 str unit has few adjacent defenders with 10+ strength, it should get much more help then 0.1 or 0.2 points.

While you're at it, any chance to add unit type specific terrain modifiers? As a moddable option of course

+1, but don't reduce the attack from multiple directions modifier too much. There will be a balance between multiple attacks and available defensive support.[:)]

It should depend on the combined arms available... and air superiority

I find that the Russian front, the units will be stacked 3 deep. So you will be jacking up their defense. A typical unit will have 4 friendly units adjacent and 2 germans adjacent. Of course, if you get a retreat, the Russian unit surrenders.

I would prefer that the unit didnt surrender, but instead took, say...double casualties.

That may seem strange, but then, if there is an empty hole, the russians just fill it with another unit, and attack back..whereas, if it was a wounded unit, they would be unable to attack, as they would be replenishing instead.
