Inter-Force Cooperation/Coordination

Hi,

As there is no EF forum yet to post this to [:'(] I've a question to ask about simulating the differences/difficulties in coordinating etc. multi-national units or subformations withinn a single superior formation. For example a German Regimental HQ with 2 German and 1 Italian battalions attached. Obviously non-organic units will increase the staff loads and probably the orders delay for the Regiment at the formation level. And presumably an attack ordered at the Reg. level might be delayed because the AXIS allied unit took longer to process the order than the 2 organic German units or something like that.... I also imagine that one country's artillery might be slower to respond to another country's unit request for support etc.

You get the idea........ not really doctrine but something else to to quantify. Yes, no, maybe??? [:)]

I'm sure command delay will be different between certain nationalities, I expect the game can already do this.

Hi Wodin

Actually, I'm not at all sure the current game engine does this based solely on nationality. I think the the game treats all non-organic attached units or sub-formations in the same fashion and using the same formulas regardless of nationality when calculating command load and orders delay etc. This is the essence of my question inasmuch as any axis allied unit/formation cross attached to that of another axis allied unit/formation (including German units/formations) should be imposing/incurring additional penalties of some kind if only to reflect the difficulties in communications and coordination don't you think?? This is 1942/1943 not the present.........

Same applies to artillery -- German arty would be a lot slower to respond to Romanian/Italian/Hungarian (and vice versa as well) requests for support than one of their own units don't you think??

If the game already does this then that's great!! I've just yet to see it........

If not, then I'm wondering if the EF game will include it as IMHO it's an important distinction to make..........heck, maybe it's already done and is just one of those features that is currently not "activated".

Arjuna??

No the game does not factor in nationality at this point. I agree it would be a nice touch. Consider it added to the wish list but I'm making no promisses on when. Thanks for the suggestion. [&o]

Right I was thinking that delay would be worked out through experience\leadership etc. I did know it wasn't a specific code thing though. So it looks like command delay is generic at the moment, which I didn't know. So it will be a great addition and something that will be needed. it will really make different forces\nations feel differently from each other and will have a major immersion impact I feel (in a good way).

Hi,

I just read your reponse to Joe D. in the smoke thread. ie.
So when it comes to introducing new tasking think "extensive changes to existing code"
which got me wondering about the whole thing. So I'm wondering:

Would a nationality feature make the whole doctrinal and related processes any easier?? Each country could have specific tasking options, formation types and behaviours etc. etc.

Or does that only make things worse??

Just curious.........

New formations are being included for the Russians in the EF game.

The underlying design allows for multiple doctrines for the same task type. It's just that we haven't implemented this feature yet. TO support differetn Soviet and German doctrines we will need to. This will involve a fair bit of work, not just in writing new doctrine but in adding functionality within the editors so that the right doctrine is set for the particular nation. I have not given that much thought yet to the latter but it would probably be some sort of list where you can set the various doctrine options. This can be done in the EstabEditor but would apply to all cases of a particular UnitEstab.,,and that may be fine. But if more than one Nation use the same estab, then we need to shift this functionality to within the Scenmaker and then we need to think of smarts to streramline the process otherwise scenario designers are going to have a lot more work to do.

Dave I'd rather wait a couple of years and have doctrines and dismount inf. Though if you can't then I understand.
